Well, 2020… where do I start!
We have all had our challenges this year, to say the least. When I took over the golf club this time last year, I couldn’t have begun to imagine what this year had in store.
Nevertheless, I’m sure you’ll agree that we’ve still managed to make considerable progress in moving things along here, not least the rebranding to ‘Cainhoe Wood Golf Club’.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your immense support, especially in this difficult year. Golf has taken on even more importance in many people’s lives during the pandemic and we’ve really enjoyed being able to provide some outdoors respite, exercise and entertainment for you all. We're looking forward to progressing things at the club even further in 2021.
We’ve recruited quite a few new members of staff this year and I’m sure you’ll all have noticed a very committed and motivated team of greenkeepers and clubhouse staff, who are all doing a fantastic job.
I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Duncan Hall, who has battled with our IT (old & new) along with installing our new Intelligent Golf system, amongst everything else.
Next on my list of thank you’s is my good friend and colleague, Paul Simpson. We’re fortunate to have Paul here as a golf pro and heading up the academy where we have lots of exciting plans afoot for 2021… once restrictions are eased.
And then last but not least, I wanted to say a big thank you to Jack, Steve and Mark from Flootes, who have been serving up some seriously tasty food all year. I’ve heard rumours that a few of you only play golf here as an excuse to eat the sausage rolls! We’re looking forward to a new menu and regular Sunday lunches, once things settle down.
Hopefully we will get a good run at this year without too many interruptions outside of our control and can forge ahead on all fronts.
We will continue to give you the best facility we can, at the best value for money. Therefore, I am happy to announce that there will be no increase in membership fees this coming season.
Let me wish you all a very happy and healthy New Year.
John O’Leary
